“See the World” Part 2: Intermediate
The bright and colorful patterns, the smell of the cleaning chemicals in the room, and the doctors watching him from behind–it was all overwhelming. Neil’s stomach growled loudly, which happened when he was nervous. Sam, his friend and coworker beside him, laughed a little under his mask.
HIV’s design was somewhat beautiful, but also nauseating. Too nauseating. Neil needed to get rid of it. Of course, he wanted to help the patient, but mostly he felt like he would vomit if he stared at the HIV any more. Neil probably felt sick because he was nervous, but the way that the patterns seemed to fill up the room made Neil feel like the HIV would attack him. Maybe he would become one of them, a pink and blue spotted cell.
Neil was so nervous, but it was worth it to give this woman a better future.
Focused on the patterns, Neil typed the HIV-infected areas on the screen in front of him. Then, the computer found the number and location of the HIV cells. With his gloved hand shaking a little, Neil typed in the final code. The computer would use this code to edit the cells, and then Neil was done with his part of the surgery. The computer almost never failed, so that if there was a problem, it would probably be Neil’s fault.
